From Italy, we proceeded to Spain, first Madrid and then Barcelona. In Madrid everything seemed monumental in scale, while Barcelona was more relaxed and scaled to humans, but still bustling. Attending the bullfights in Madrid so soon after contemplating the Colosseum in Rome was a good intellectual exercise, but not something that we need to do again. The Prado and other museums in Madrid were stunning, and the architecture in Barcelona was the main attraction.
